
An established audit professional in Oakland, California, Brenda Roberts has spent more than two decades as an auditor for publicly-held companies, government agencies, and other organizations. She began her career in public accounting with KPMG. Later, as Senior Manager with Deloitte & Touche she collaborated with other managers and took on critical roles in the recruitment programs and staff training initiatives while managing well-performing audit teams and leading financial reporting efforts.
Since that time, Brenda Roberts has held senior audit roles with organizations such as Safeway, the US Department of Labor, Core-Mark International, and AAA Northern California. She most recently served a four-year term as elected city auditor for Oakland. During her tenure, she developed audit plans that addressed issues in nearly every city department and she identified more than $4 million in cost savings and revenue recapture, highlighting better practices to city management, to the benefit of the taxpayers.
Brenda Roberts also spearheaded improvement projects such as transitioning the City Auditor-managed Whistleblower Hotline program to a secure online platform. Brenda Roberts holds a CPA license in California and received her MBA in Finance from Golden Gate University. She has earned multiple accolades for her professional efforts over the years, including the Exceptional Achievement Award from the US Department of Labor and the Knighton Award from the Association of Local Government Auditors.
